Aquatic Therapy - Pool Therapy
Aquatic Therapy is a form of physical therapy that utilizes water to bolster the rehabilitative process based on specific patient needs. Aquatic Therapy has many benefits including:
- Reduce Compressive Forces: Using the buoyancy of water, aquatic therapy can reduce the stress on the body down to 10% of total body weight. This reduction in compressive forces enables joints to move more freely and with less pain while still improving strength and overall conditioning.
- Increased Muscle Recruitment & Resistance: Performing an exercise in water allows a higher number of muscles to work than the same exercise would outside of water. Also, the resistance water provides is proportional to the speed at which the body moves. This allows the intensity and resistance of the exercise to be easily adjusted.
- Improved Stability & Safety: The density and resistance of water provides support and stability to the body. This, combined with the unweighting effects of water on the body, provides optimal conditions for working on balance and mobility with individuals that otherwise would have high difficulty or poor safety with traditional balance and mobility training.
Select Therapy’s Aquatic Therapy Program is an excellent way for patients to rehabilitate from injury and improve balance and mobility. For more information regarding our Aquatic Therapy Program, feel free to give us a call, so we may answer any questions specific to your needs.
